Tables grouped by size so one party takes one table, a chef's table that a tasting evening owns, and a private room guests hire by the two-hour block.

Tables as an Equipment Group

Create one item per table size — Table for 2 (six units, capacity 2), Table for 4 (eight units, capacity 4), Table for 6 (three units, capacity 6) and Table for 8 (one unit, capacity 8) — all Exclusive and Part of Group. Put them in a Dining Tables group: Automatic, Required, allocation mode Sequential, Same Equipment Item: Required, with the items dragged smallest first. Link the group to the Dinner Reservation appointment service.

Dinner Reservations (Appointments)

A party of two is placed on the first free Table for 2; a party of four skips the two-seaters, because Same Equipment Item: Required means everyone must sit at one item that holds them. Exclusive keeps a four-seater reserved by two from being filled by strangers. When no table that fits is free, the time is refused as fully booked.

For an appointment service every booking is its own session: an exclusive unit is taken whole by the booking that reserves it, and a shared unit is filled by other bookings at the same time up to its capacity.

Chef's Table Tasting (Group Class)

A Chef's Table Tasting (size 8) is a calendar class linked directly to the Standalone-mode Chef's Table item (one unit, capacity 8, Exclusive, Required). Scheduling it reserves the table for the evening and each guest who books fills a seat; no reservation can take it while the tasting holds it.

Because this is a group class on the calendar, each session reserves one unit of every required, exclusive item when it is scheduled — before anyone books. Attendees are placed on that unit in turn and never pick it; once it is full the next attendee moves to the next free unit (choosing it themselves if the group is Customer Choice). When no unit is free, the session reads as full even if seats remain.

Standalone Hire

Create Private Room (one unit, capacity 12, Exclusive), open Advanced → Standalone hire, turn on Available for standalone hire and set Block duration 120 minutes, Price per block $3,000, Time frame 30 minutes, Buffer time - Open 0, Buffer time - Close 30 minutes to reset the room and Hire hours 11:30–22:00 Tuesday to Sunday, Monday Closed. The hidden hire service has capacity 12 (one active unit × capacity 12), so only one hire fits at a time.

On the Hire page a host picks Private Room and Saturday 18:00; Duration +1 extends the evening to four hours, shown as Additional time, Quantity stays 1, and the plus buttons are disabled while the room is hired for the next block. Hire is paid in full at booking by the price per block — no passes, and the item's ordinary Price does not apply — and needs Equipment hire among your booking types. You can also ask the assistant to change these settings.

Checking Allocations

Open Equipment → Allocations — the first tab — to see which party holds which table. The columns are Equipment, Unit, Customer, Class, Start time, End time and Capacity used; a Session badge marks the Chef's Table held for a tasting. Filter by Class (Dinner Reservation, Chef's Table Tasting), Equipment (Table for 4, Private Room), Customer or Date range, or search by equipment, unit or class name or class schedule ID. Private-room hires are listed here too, as bookings on the room's hidden hire service. Use load more or load all for a busy night. You can also ask the assistant to list allocations for a session, class, customer, item, unit or date.

Changing Items and Groups Later

The edits a restaurant makes most often:

  • Add a Table for 4 — open the item, choose the Units pill and select Add Unit, or enter a new Total units and select Go.
  • Change which tables fill first — open Equipment → Groups, open Dining Tables and drag the items into priority order, for example window tables before the back room.
  • Give a lunch service a different rule — open Equipment → Classes, select the service and choose New Group Override (Same Equipment Item Override) or New Equipment Override (Price Override, Assignment Type Override).

Every one of these can also be done by asking the assistant.
