Enable or disable customer-to-business direct messaging through the booking system.

What this setting controls

Direct messaging lets customers send messages to your business through the booking system — typically to ask questions about classes, bookings or their pass. The setting controls whether messages are enabled and, when enabled, whether customers can only read or also send messages back.

The three states

Disabled — "Customers can't read or send messages." The Messages tab is hidden from the customer inbox entirely.

Customer restrictions (read only) — "Customers can read messages only." Customers see messages you send them but cannot reply.

No restrictions — "Customers can message instructors and admins." Full two-way messaging.

How to enable direct messaging

Go to Admin → Settings → Configuration → Direct messaging and pick the level you want. Save.

Note: this setting only affects customer ↔ business messaging. Admin-to-admin and admin-to-instructor messaging is unaffected. By default the setting is disabled — you have to opt in explicitly.
