Tell the booking system what kind of business you run, and optionally adopt that business type's standard wording.

What this setting controls

The business type tells the booking system what kind of business you run — for example a yoga studio, a hair salon or a dog wash. It is used to suggest the standard wording for that kind of business, such as the words used for class, instructor and pass, and during first-time setup it helps pre-fill sensible starting defaults.

Changing the business type later does not change your existing classes, passes, prices or wording on its own. Wording only changes if you accept the Update wording? prompt described below.

How to change the business type

Go to Admin → Settings → Configuration → Business type, pick the type that best fits your business and press Save.

Business type used to be on the Customization page; it now lives on Configuration.

Multiple locations: if "Do you want to have settings per location?" is turned on in Configuration, each location has its own business type — for example a yoga location and a massage location. Pick the location in the location picker at the top of the page before changing it. With the toggle off, every location shares one business type, set with All locations selected.

The Update wording? prompt

After you save a new business type, you may be offered Update wording?. Choosing Update wording replaces the booking terms in Settings → Customization → Customize text with that business type's standard terms. Some types also set extra terms — for example a dog wash names dependents "pet". If you close the prompt instead, your current wording is kept.

The prompt only appears when the wording follows the business type you saved. Customization has its own settings-per-location toggle, separate from the one on Configuration:

  • Wording per location — the prompt appears when you save a single location's business type, and updates that location's wording.
  • Wording shared — the prompt appears when you save the business type from All locations, and updates the shared wording.

If the two pages are set differently (for example Configuration per location but wording shared), no prompt appears. You can always fine-tune any term afterwards in Customize text.
