Open Obie settings
- Open Obie from the OceanBooking admin.
- Select the Settings cog at the top of the Obie panel.
- Update the Business settings or User settings, then select Save.
The settings screen has two sections, Business settings and User settings. Each section header shows a help icon that opens this article.
If the settings cannot be loaded, the screen shows the message Sorry there has been an error. Please try again later instead of the form. No fields and no Save action are available while that message is shown, so nothing can be edited or saved. Close and reopen the settings to try again later.
Business settings
Business settings control Obie's personality and give it instructions that are shared with all admins in this business. Use them for a consistent communication style or terminology across your team.
For example:
- Keep responses short and to the point.
- Use our studio terminology.
- Explain booking rules before suggesting changes.
Changing these settings affects the admin assistant for the whole business, so write instructions that are suitable for every admin.
User settings
User instructions apply only to your signed-in admin account. They are applied after the shared Business settings, so you can tailor Obie's answers without changing another admin's experience.
For example:
- Explain unfamiliar terms before using them.
- Give me the answer before the explanation.
- Use my first name when replying.
Other admins can add their own User instructions, and your instructions do not alter theirs.
What instructions can and cannot change
Business and User instructions can change Obie's tone, preferred wording, explanation style, and level of detail. Business instructions accept up to 1,000 characters, and User instructions accept up to 500 characters. Leave a field blank and save to clear it.
These preferences cannot change your permissions, bypass approvals or confirmations, give Obie unsupported capabilities, or override OceanBooking's safety rules. They apply to Obie in the signed-in admin only and do not change the separate customer-facing AI Chatbot.
Do not enter passwords, payment-provider credentials, API secrets, or other login details in these fields.
